A low-pressure area of weather triggered severe flooding in a market in the southern Philippines on Thursday.

Heavy rain lashed the town of Malalag in Davao del Sur province on November 17, causing the water level in surrounding streams to rise.

Footage shows the villagers fishing out debris drifting along the thigh-deep deluge at a public market.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the low-pressure area had already left the Philippine monitoring region.

However, its trough, as well as the intertropical convergence zone or equatorial band of converging winds, will continue to bring scattered rain and thunderstorms over the southern island of Mindanao where Davao del Sur is located.
