Fisherman with arm stuck in trawler winch of boat for two days rescued in Thailand
A fisherman with his arm was stuck in the trawler winch of a boat for two days has finally been rescued in Thailand.
Panuwat Khamsri, 40, was reeling the rusty machine to haul the net up onto the deck when his glove became stuck in the machine off the coast of Samut Prakan province on November 13 evening.
Shouting for help, Panuwat's colleagues rushed and turned off the winch but it had already eaten up to his left arm elbow.
The injured fisherman was left stuck between the wall and the large steel for two days until a rescue team successfully pulled him out on November 15 morning.
Footage shows a rescue volunteer pummeling the winch with a hammer to pry the gear off. A power tool was also used to cut portions of the metal.
A rescuer from the Samut Prakan Charity Foundation said: ‘We went to help the fishing crew. One of them had his arm stuck in the winch machine.
‘When the boat reached the shore, they called us. His arm had been stuck for two days.'
After 30 minutes, the team successfully took the fisherman's arm out of the machine.
A medic team was waiting on the scene and applied first aid on the fisherman's injuries before he was rushed to Samut Prakan hospital for further treatment.
The rescuer added: ‘We took him to the hospital and he is now in stable condition.'
