Texas police 'wrongfully' detain young Hispanic girl accused of stealing from Walmart
Footage has emerged of police officers in Angleton, Texas, detaining a 17-year-old Hispanic girl and her boyfriend after allegedly stealing from Walmart.
However, the couple claims they were wrongfully arrested after being falsely accused of stealing by a store employee.
"They called the cops and pulled up on us, detained my sister and her boyfriend without checking the bags first or the receipt of the products she had bought," the filmer told Newsflare.
The video, recorded on November 13, shows the moment Angleton Police officers instruct Priscilla Herrera and Francisco Castillo, both 17, to "drop everything" and put their hands behind their backs.
A female officer then pushes Herrera to the ground before placing handcuffs on her.
The male officer then explains to the couple, "right now you're being detained because they said you stole something," despite Herrera saying she has receipts for the items.
The filmer of the altercation explained: "I was shopping for stuff in Walmart with my sister. I decided to pay early and wait for my sister outside. We both had bags and a receipt.
"While me and my brother were waiting for my sister and her boyfriend, she called me and I heard she was arguing with a white female employer accusing her of stealing.
"We all decided to walk away from the situation because we didn’t have anything with us, that’s when they called the cops and pulled up on us, detained my sister and her boyfriend without checking the bags first or the receipt of the products she had bought!
"They also checked my bag as well when they shouldn’t have had because I wasn’t involved in this, so they all decided to let them go because they didn’t find anything and banned us from walking in from Walmart anymore or we will be detained."
Angleton Police and Walmart have both been contacted for a comment on the incident.
