Sukant Samantray, 30, was riding his bike in Bhubaneswar in eastern India on November 19 when he felt a bite just above his right ankle.

An intense pain shot up his leg and when looked down he saw a small cobra with a raised hood. There was also blood oozing out of his leg.

He jumped out of the bike and fell on the road. Bypassers quickly responded and took him to a hospital.

Someone called Snake Helpline for help and a volunteer, Susant Behera, went to the spot. He could not find the snake easily and had to nearly dismantle the bike to track down the cobra.

General Secretary of Snake Helpline, Subhendu Mallik said: "Sukant is under treatment and is recovering well. The cobra is injured and we have to see how it will respond to the treatment.”
