One person was killed while 46 more were injured after a tour bus overturned along a sloping road in Thailand.

The group of tourists were on the green double-decker bus driving home from Phetchabun province when the vehicle flipped over while turning a curve and skidded across the road on November 20.

Its windshield was shattered while the passengers' belongings were scattered along Highway 12 in the Nam Nao National Park.

Local media reported that 46 people were injured while the driver, Surachai, 47, was killed at the scene.

Rescuers rushed 45 of the crash victims to the Nam Nao Hospital, while one was sent to the Khon San Hospital in Chaiyaphum province.

Investigations found that the group of women had come to Phetchabun for a field trip and were on their way back to Maha Sarakham province when the tragic accident happened.

One unnamed passenger, speaking to local reporters, said: 'Before the bus overturned, there was a burning smell.'

It is believed that the crash was caused by a problem with the brake system.

The route was also said to be treacherous, with drivers having to negotiate numerous curves and steep slopes.

Further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the event.
