This is the adorable moment a baby elephant slid down a slippery hill with his mother jumbo.

Footage shows the juvenile climbing down the slippery slope as his protective parent guided him in Narathiwat province, southern Thailand, on November 18.

Onlooker Wuttichai Boonsong said the baby named Pee-mai and his mother Buaban are always together wherever they go.

Mother jumbo Buaban even pushed the soil to make it easier for the young creature to climb down.

Wuttichai said: ‘The elephants understand when I talk to them. I told them to follow me and they slide down the hill.

‘It's a rewarding job to take care of these creatures. You get to see special moments like this on a regular day.'

Wuttichai looks after the two elephants at a nearby wildlife sanctuary. They are just two of the estimated 2,000 elephants in captivity in Thailand. A similar number live in the wild.
