Drone footage shows smouldering ruins following fire in Philippines coastal village
This aerial footage shows the smouldering ruins of a coastal village after being razed by a huge fire that displaced 700 families in the Philippines.
The video shows smoke wafting up from the skeletal remains of houses in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City in Cebu province on November 23.
The fire erupted Tuesday night at around 11:46 pm and burned down an estimated 250 homes, causing more than 1 million PHP (around 17,460 USD) in property damage, local media reported.
It was extinguished at 2:38 am.
Fire Officer 1 Cyrus Albert Ytang, desk officer of the Mandaue City Fire Department, said: 'The fire started at the residence of Renaldo Devilleres, who sustained second-degree burns.'
Two others were also injured and taken to a hospital. There were no reports of casualties.
In a statement, Mandaue Mayor Jonas Cortes said: 'We are saddened by the large fire that struck Sitio Paradise and destroyed hundreds of homes.
'The fire victims are currently being counted and validated so they can receive aid.
'To my brothers and sisters in Sitio Paradise, don't lose hope. The City Government is here to assist you. We can rise from this tragedy.'
The displaced families are currently housed at a temporary evacuation centre at the Mandaue City Central School.
