This is the heartwarming moment a trapped kitten was rescued after falling into a storm drain in Thailand.

The baby feline was discovered by a vendor at the Phimai district market in Nakhon Ratchasima province on November 17.

The woman had been sweeping water off the streets into the gutter when she heard the hapless creature's feeble cries coming from behind the grilles.

She looked inside and was shocked to see the weakened black moggie trembling inside and soaking in the sewage. She promptly called rescuers for help fearing it might die if left alone.

A volunteer later arrived and reached through the 3ft deep drain to pull out the black cat. Luckily, it was sitting next to the opening, allowing the specialist to fish it out with ease.

The rescuer, taking pity on the tiny animal, decided to temporarily adopt the kitten.

He said: 'If anyone owns this cat, they can contact us at the Phimai Songkhro Foundation in Phimai District, Nakhon Ratchasima.'
