This is the terrifying moment a wild monitor lizard was seen scurrying across a family's bathroom sunroof.

The reptile was crawling on the structure when house owner Suthiporn Prahmananto heard the strange sounds in his home in Samut Prakan province, Thailand, on October 15.

Suthiporn followed the noise and it led him to the toilet where he saw the animal's shape on the transparent plastic panel.

Footage shows the lizard seating on top of the sunroof, making it visible from inside the toilet.

Resident Suthiporn said: ‘I was hearing it scratch through the panel. I think it was looking for a way inside. It's a bit scary.'

The house owner knocked on the sunroof to make the 3ft-long animal leave but it was unbothered.

Suthiporn added: ‘It was not scared of me. I kept knocking to chase it away.'

In the end, animal rescuers had to take the creature from the home and release it back to the wild.
