A tourist was pelted by bottles after scaling the sacred Mayan Temple of Kukulcán on November 20.

Footage captured by @angelalopeze shows the female tourist climbing the steps of the iconic landmark in Chichen Itza, Mexico.
Once she reaches the top she proceeds to dance drawing jeers from the onlooking crowd.

She is then berated by locals and other tourists as she reaches the bottom of the temple.

Furious locals then begin shouting at her with some even emptying their bottles of water over her.

Since 2008, climbing the temple has been punishable with a fine of up to $5,000.

The woman was identified as a 29-year-old and was released by local police after paying a $257 fine.

20 November 2022, Chichen Itza, Mexico

In the Mexican city of Chichen Itza, a tourist climbed onto the sacred Mayan temple, the Pyramid of Kukulkan, and began to dance.

The tourist was detained by a security guard and brought to a crowd of outraged local residents. They started grabbing her by the hair, pushing, screaming and demanding that she be put in jail for desecrating a shrine.

As a result, the woman was taken to the police station, fined 5,000 pesos and released. According to the publication, the violator is 29 years old, she is a citizen of Mexico.

The Pyramid of Kukulkan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since 2008, it has been forbidden to climb the sacred site.
