This is the sweet moment a pet dog paid his owner with pieces of paper in exchange for its food.

The rescued pooch named Tutz was in the kitchen while his owners were eating lunch when he rummaged through a box in their home in Cavite, the Philippines, on November 7.

After a few seconds, the brown dog took out a paper receipt and gave it to his owner before asking for a bite of the meat.

Footage shows Tutz diligently searching the box for the sheet and using it to pay for snacks.

Amused pet owner Jaemee San Juan said: ‘Every time we eat, that's what he does,3 and he always finds a piece of paper. He knows where to look.'

Jaemee added that Tutz was rescued from the streets a year ago, and being a stray might have something to do with the unusual behaviour.

She said: ‘He used to be a stray. Maybe he understands about working hard to get food.

‘He seemed to have a concept of payment. What's amazing is he always pays us with paper. Like how people pay for food with money.'
