This is the moment a banded kukri snake camouflaging in mud lunged at a resident in Thailand.

The brown serpent was found coiled on the backyard among dried grass and wet soil in Chumphon province on November 23.

When house owner Palika Singampol went closer to check what snake it was, the creature turned defensive and attempted to bite twice.

Footage shows the 2ft-long banded kukri leaping off to attack. However, the nonvenomous snake was unsuccessful.

Palika said: ‘If I walked around here at night, it would surely bite me. I could have stepped on it thinking it was rock or mud.

‘It had a bad aim though, or it was just bluffing about biting me. Maybe it just wanted me to leave.'

The snake was later turned over to wildlife officers and released.
