Great Crested Grebes (Podiceps cristatus australis) are widespread but generally uncommon in Australia, but Herdsman Lake near Perth is a stronghold for the species. Several pairs of Grebes bred in the lake during the southern hemisphere Spring in 2022. This male Grebe was swimming with three of his four chicks on his back, while the fourth chick pushed against him like a little tugboat as it scrambled to climb abroad.
