China continues to struggle with its zero-COVID policy and residents in parts of Beijing are held up at checkpoints by local staff dressed in full protective gear.

Authorities are reporting peak levels of new infections and millions are under lockdown with the population getting more and more frustrated about the restrictive policies of quarantine, mass testing and lockdowns.

The video filmed on November 26 shows a checkpoint in Beijing's Changping district, with a crowd of people queuing while the health staff are dressed in protective suits the likes of which the rest of the world hasn't seen since the height of the pandemic in 2020.

Chinese National Health Commission (NHC) reported 31,444 COVID cases, including 1,648 cases in Beijing, on Wednesday, November 23, surpassing the previous peak of 29,317 recorded on April 13 during Shanghai's months-long lockdown.

Several cities were put under lockdown the government reimposed a range of strict measures under its "zero-COVID" policy, including lockdowns, mass testing, and quarantines for anyone suspected of having come into contact with the virus.

The video shows staff in white protective suits standing at the gate of a residential community in Beijing, monitoring residents to keep them from leaving the community.
