Torrential rain caused flash floods that washed away hundreds of cars leaving two people dead in Saudi Arabia on Thursday November 24.

Footage shows the carnage in the city of Jeddah during eight hours of sustained rainfall. Officials from The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) reported that 179.7 mm of water fell in the short space of time, making it the highest rainfall ever recorded in the region.

Video from the same area the next day on Friday morning shows the devastation left behind by the floods.

Civil Defense spokesman Colonel Muhammad Al-Qarni told local media that two people were killed when they were trapped in their submerged vehicles as the raging torrents of muddy water battered them.

The Makkah region government staff deployed 52 water tanks across the area to try and pump away some of the floodwater.
