Around 50 people attended a candlelit vigil close to Sydney Town Hall on Sunday (November 27) in memory of Urumqi fire victims.

Candles were placed on the ground to read ‘Urumqi 11 24’ being the date of the deadly fire in a high-rise building in the Xinjiang province in China.

The tragic incident claimed the lives of 10 people and went viral on social media. It has been blamed on the draconian lockdown methods enforced by the Chinese ruling party as some believe the victims could not escape the building as it had been locked down.

Some people at the vigil held up blank sheets of paper in protest against the CCP censorship.
