A chunky 10ft-long wild python held up traffic as it crossed a road in Thailand.

The massive serpent emerged from the tall grass next to a canal and made its way to the bushes on the other side in Bangkok on November 26.

Shocked riders and drivers had to stop to let it pass while a confused dog stood 15ft-away watching it before fleeing.

Footage shows the snake slowly crossing the road before disappearing into the wilderness.

Onlooker Sunsanee said: ‘It was so big. It was one of the biggest I have seen in my life. It casually crossed the road like there were no people around looking.'

The snake sighting was reported to local traffic officers in case it re-appeared in the area.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
