A savvy mum has revealed how you can cook 24 meals for under £20 – and the best part is, they are super easy to make.

Heidi Ondrak, 51, from Plymouth, is making it her mission to try and help others manage their bills, having recently hit the headlines after sharing why she won't be buying Christmas presents this year.

The mum has more than 30,900 followers on TikTok and 230,000 likes across her videos, where she reveals her top tips for cutting down on costs.

In one of her most recent videos, Heidi reveals the key to saving money on your food shop bills – by making a meal prep list and finding the best cost-cutting recipes.

Once you have your meals planned, the mum says you can make logical decisions on where to buy your food based on discounts.

In the clip, Heidi revealed she even resorted to searching up wartime recipes to try and find some cost-cutting meal ideas.

She then shows a spreadsheet she created on her computer which has the list of all her meals set out for the week.

At the end of the video, Heidi shows her meal prep plan which features winter favourites such as corn beef hash and toad in the hole which comes in at just 49p per portion.

"I created this meal plan to try and help other people who might be struggling for ideas for family meals on a budget," Heidi told NeedToKnow.online.

"Kids are fussy and it’s even more stressful trying to feed a family on a budget when you have fussy kids.

"These have been tested on my fussy gang – it's good old-fashioned plain food and I have tried to balance them so there is protein, carbs and fats as well as veg where possible.

"After the middle of the month the belt gets even tighter, my car was on the fritz and I had to get the exhaust repaired which meant my budget needed to contract.

"I am fortunate and have not had to use a food bank but I wanted to see if I could use some typical dried and canned items to make meals.

"I checked on the Trussell Trust website for typical food parcel contents and I think that the corn beef hash could be made with packet dried mash and the pasta dishes could also be made using food bank items."

For a full meal and ingredient plan, see the breakdown below.

Heidi revealed a lot of thought and cutbacks had to be put into the carefully curated plan.

She said: "I kept meat to a minimum with only one chicken meal and one sausage meal and I will use bacon in the pasta.

"I also weigh loose vegetables in Sainsbury’s rather than buying the pre-packed multi-pack.

"I bought a big bag of pasta which was cheaper on overall weight and I could use this for two pasta dishes."

Heidi's meal plan is based on feeding a family of four for a week.

She hopes that by posting her advice online she can help other people like herself.

She added: "I'm just a mum trying to make ends meet like everyone else, I don’t have a silver bullet for this awful crisis and the impending energy hikes.

"But I know that I like treats still and I don’t want all my wages to go on bills and food so I try to shave costs off them - buying second-hand means that I can still have nice things.

"Pulling my belt in now means that I am getting used to living on less and being less wasteful.

"I think our standard of living has been good for so long that all of this is a shock but at the same time we are wasteful, all of the ideas I share make me more sustainable as well as being frugal options."
