UWC confers honorary doctorates on Imtiaz Sooliman and Allan Boesak
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) has confered honorary doctorates on Dr Imtiaz Sooiman and Dr Allan Boesak. The two well known South Africans were honoured in a ceremony overseen by UWC Vice Chancellor Professor Tyrone Pretorius and Chancellor Thabo Makgoba (Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town).
Dr Sooliman founded the Gift of the Givers NGO in the 1990s after receiving a vision from a muslim cleric. Gift of the Givers provides humanitarian aid across South Africa and disaster zones around the world.
Dr Boesak rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s when he opposed the apartheid regime as both a cleric and political activist. Dr Boesak has several degrees and a Phd and has been a lecturer, cleric and writer for many years.
