A team from the Padang City Fire Department rescued a dog that was trapped on the exterior wall of a police dormitory.

Footage from December 5 shows firefighters tying a rope around the canine's neck before slowly dragging him onto a balcony.

The rescue operation lasted around 30 minutes and the stray pooch was set free.

Padang Sutan City Fire Chief Hendra said: "The evacuation started with reports from local people seeing that the stray dog was above the ventilation and could not get down, because there was no road and it was high.

"Until now it is not known why the dog was able to be above that."
