This is the shocking moment hay bales toppled from a truck onto an oncoming car in Thailand.

The loose stacks of hay tipped over after the truck turned at a curve along a road in Roi Et province on December 2 morning.

Dashcam footage shows the hay bales tumbling onto the tarmac and obscuring the windshield of a driver on the opposite lane.

Local media reported the sedan's front portion was dented and its windscreen damaged. The driver did not suffer injuries from the accident.

Motorist Pornsawan who was driving behind the overloaded truck said: ‘I was headed to the hospital for work when it happened. The truck driver knew what was going on so I was angry.

'I could have been hit if by the oncoming car if it had swerved into my lane. Luckily, that did not happen and the car driver is also safe.

'I hope people take this video as an example to be more cautious while driving. Truck drivers should also make sure their loads are properly secured to prevent accidents.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
