Two baggage handlers were sacked after footage emerged of the pair mishandling passengers' luggage at an airport in Australia.

The shocking video shows the duo chuckling as they carelessly flung suitcases and bags onto a conveyor belt at the Melbourne Airport.

One of the men was filmed intentionally slamming a bag onto the carousel. One suitcase was filmed shooting off of the belt when it was thrown from the luggage container with excessive force.

The handlers were reportedly workers of Swissport, an airport ground services company and subcontractor of Australian flag carrier Qantas.

In a statement, Swissport has confirmed that the employees in question have been fired after an investigation.

A Swissport spokesperson said: 'Swissport trains and manages all staff to handle customer possessions with care and diligence.

'Our 3,000 strong team across the network works hard to ensure these standards are upheld, and it is important that when those standards are breached by a small group of individuals that we take action.

'An urgent investigation was undertaken into the recent behaviour of two team members at Melbourne Airport who were handling customer luggage in an unacceptable manner.

'As a result of that investigation, Swissport has terminated the employment of these individuals.'

Swissport added it has 'conducted a briefing of all operations teams to remind them of the high standards we expect, and enforce.'
