Lion dance performer breaks collarbone after missing jump in front of audience in Thailand
A lion dance performer broke his collarbone after missing a jump in front of an audience in Thailand.
The duo was inside the yellow suit while skipping on top of 5ft-high pillars when one of them slipped down in Phetchabun province on December 8.
He fell head first onto the concrete floor and dragged his partner with him as shocked locals watched during the festival.
The performance, which originates from historic China, was stopped and the other dancers checked on him as he lay collapsed on the ground.
Rescue volunteer Sarawut Pewthaisong, 22, said: ‘We applied first aid to the dancers on the scene and took the other one to the hospital. He seemed to have broken some bones.'
The injured dancer was rushed to Bueng Sam Phan Hospital. He was found to have broken his collarbone, aside from his arms and leg injuries.
Sarawut added that the dancer was a new group member. They will remain at the hospital for treatment and recovery.
He said: ‘He was new in the group according to the others. Maybe that's the reason why he wasn't as proficient in jumping across poles as the others.'
