Police are hunting two Polish tourists who allegedly tortured a Khmer woman in an abandoned building by pouring acid over her face.

Officers identified Daniel Majewski, 22, and Mateusz Piotr Krynicki, 31, after charity worker and part-time painter Sere, 30, was reportedly duped into meeting them for a portrait in Pattaya, Thailand, on November 1.

However, the tourists allegedly dragged her to the house and tied her with a wire before beating her up with a hammer and splashing acid all over her face, body, and genitals. She needed 260 stitches and her body will be scarred for life.

Sere - whose face is still in bandages - made a police report at the time but was reportedly fobbed off by officers. They finally began searching for the suspects last week when a prominent local lawyer took up her case.

Police Colonel Navin Sinthurat of Bang Lamung Police Station said: ‘We are vigilant in finding these two suspects. We gathered positive identity after closely looking at the scene and CCTV in the surrounding places.'

Officer's said that Sere's face was also cut with a knife. They checked the scene and found objects including knives, hammers, duct tape, wires, and glasses that were allegedly used in the attack.

Fingerprints were obtained and matched with the Polish foreigners who reportedly arrived in Pattaya on October 20 before they were seen by locals wandering the area on October 31.

A security guard Bangmad, 24, found Sere bleeding and disoriented as she walked aimlessly on the beach before she was taken to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital where she continues to recover.

In her statement with the police, Sere claimed she did not know the two men and it was the first time that she saw them. The motive for the attack remained unclear but some speculated on a revenge angle as Sere said she was once threatened by a foreigner's ex-wife before.

But the woman Katanyuta Oche, 49, denied any involvement in the alleged attack.

After authorities identified the men, the Pattaya Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant for the two foreigners but they had already fled to a neighbouring country, the Philippines, on November 3.

Thai police said they are now coordinating with the Interpol to flag warrants against the two.
