Emotions peaked when a resident reportedly fainted after buying clothes at the market. Locals accused the traders of putting poison on the clothes, causing the victim to faint. The angry masses then reacted by setting fire to the traditional market. Mobs also attacked a number of security forces.

As a result of the arson and attack, approximately 50 kiosks and nine motorcycles were burned down and four people were injured, one of whom was a member of the TNI.

Police said 11 people were arrested and they are currently under investigation.

The police said they had arrested 11 suspected perpetrators of anarchism who were local natives. They are currently being investigated by the police intensively.

The Regent of Deiyai, the Chairperson of the DPRD and the Head of the Deiyai ​​Police arrived at the scene to calm the masses.
