A chimpanzee has predicted that Morocco will beat France in the World Cup semi-final.

The clairvoyant ape named 'Chao Jon' made the forecast in front of expectant sports fans at the Songkhla Zoo in Thailand on December 12.

Zoo staff hung the Moroccan and French flags on a rope, with Chao Jan deciding on a victor by grabbing one of the two banners.

After a caretaker let the chimp loose in his enclosure, it made a beeline for the soccer ball and ran around holding the object inside the exhibition area.

It then grabbed the red flag of Morocco with a green star in the centre, indicating that the team would win their bout with France. It later came back to pluck the French flag from the rope.

Pichet Thapanawat, acting director of the Songkhla Zoo, said the activity was meant to entertain the wild animal and reduce its stress while in captivity.

He said: 'We will have to see whether or not Chao Jon guessed the results of the match correctly.'

Morocco will play France at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor city in Qatar on Wednesday evening.
