A creative mother recycled dozens of Mountain Dew bottles to make a stunning illuminated Christmas tree.

Germin Villaver, 38, collected the bottles from around her neighborhood, originally to sell in Cebu province, the Philippines.

However, the artistic mum-of-two saw the potential in the neon green coloured bottles and had the idea of turning them into a soda tower as an alternative holiday decoration.

Footage shows Germin diligently putting the bottles together so she could form them into round layers and build the tree.

She said: ‘I have two boys, aged 14 and 17. I want to be a good influence and teach them about recycling so for this year I did not buy a Christmas tree.

‘Instead, I made one for them using the materials I gathered around our village.'

After at least three hours of work, mother Germin built a 10-layer tree. She said she didn't expect the outpour of messages congratulating her for the tree.

She said: ‘It's just a simple tree, but I worked hard to make it a nice one. I am happy with those who were inspired by it.'
