Intense, fiery, and deadly unrest has unfolded across Lima, Peru in recent days, and the government has declared a national emergency on December 14 as it attempts to quell violent protests over President Pedro Castillo’s dethronement.

The rights of “personal security and freedom” have been suspended across the country for 30 days.

Various footage from December 13 shows how the Andean nation is suffering from acts of vandalism and violence.

“Peru cannot overflow with blood,” Peru’s new president Dina Boluarte said Wednesday.

Boluarte was sworn in last week hours after Castillo ouster.

In this 5 minute unedited video shot in Plaza San Martín, Lima riot police are confronted by people protesting the removal of President Castillo from office. Earlier in the night a protester was hit in the head by a projectile fired by police (video on my profile). Later a police car tried to pass by the location on Jirón de La Union but was forced back by angry protesters who had surrounded the spot the protester fell and lit candles.
