Sailing from Darwin, Australia, we encountered unusually glassy seas off the coast of Timor.
Spalax 2 is a sailing catamaran on a world circumnavigation. Having cleared out of Australia on Thursday Island, we headed for Timor, Indonesia. About 250 nautical miles out of Darwin, we were becalmed in Timor Sea. There was absolutely no wind and no swell for a whole day, only glassy seas all day and all night. We had to resort to diesel power, so we cranked up the two engines and motored 24 hours to reach Kupand on the island of Timor to clear into Indonesia.
