Father builds awesome 7ft-tall Christmas tree from recycled Coca-Cola bottles
A father made a flashing Christmas tree from recycled Coca-Cola bottles for his family.
Nelson John See, 45, said he was inspired to build the environmental-friendly holiday decoration after a recent typhoon ravaged his home in Cainta, the Philippines.
To help reduce plastic waste, he collected empty bottles from the local neighbourhood and then turned them into a functional sculpture.
Time-lapse footage shows the artistic father-of-three building the 7ft-tall plastic Coke tower from scratch.
He said: ‘I have three sons aged 14, 7, and 3. As a father, the recent typhoon made me worried for their safety.
'I want to help save the environment and stop climate change. And also, I want them to have good memories this holiday.'
Nelson added he collected the materials from their neighborhood.
He said: ‘We don't throw away the bottles in case we can re-use them. I also check my neighbour's bin for things that could still be used.'
Nelson used an old car tire as a base and tied the bottles together with a wire to form a ring. He then placed the Coke rings on top of the base secured with a pole.
To make it more festive, the tall plastic tree was surrounded by blinking tiny lights with a finishing star topper symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem.
Nelson said: ‘It's just a tree, and if you think about it, the bottles barely reduce the trash on the earth. But I want to inspire others with my symbolic tree. This Christmas I wish for a better environment.'
