Intense, fiery, and deadly unrest has unfolded across Lima, Peru in recent days, and the government has declared a national emergency on December 14 as it attempts to quell violent protests over President Pedro Castillo’s dethronement.

The rights of “personal security and freedom” have been suspended across the country for 30 days.

Various footage from December 14 shows how police from the Andean nation fire tear gas as protesters try to push past them during their demonstrations.

“Peru cannot overflow with blood,” Peru’s new president Dina Boluarte said Wednesday.

Boluarte was sworn in last week hours after Castillo ouster.
