This is the dramatic moment two girls had a near miss when an out-of-control truck overturned behind them and spilled dozens of beer cases in the Philippines.

The pair of young women were strolling along the roadside in Malilipot town, Albay province on December 13 when the truck careened towards them after its brakes failed.

CCTV footage shows the ladies walking by casually before the truck, tilted on one side, whizzed across the and narrowly missed them.

It rear-ended another truck then flipped over into an adjacent empty lot while its cargo flew from its back. The grassy field was covered in broken glass shards and spilled alcohol.

Alarmed villagers quickly swarmed the scene. They combed through the wreckage for survivors, but also took the opportunity to scavenge for precious free booze.

The residents called emergency services for help while sifting through the crash site to salvage unbroken bottles of alcohol.

Rodel Soriao, the driver of the truck that was hit, said: 'We stopped on the roadside because my companion needed to pee. While he was climbing out of his seat, the other truck crashed into us. It was terrifying.'

Three people were injured, including the speeding truck's driver. They were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Erickson Buag, Malilipot Police investigator, said: 'Based on our investigations, the truck had a problem with its brakes. The road was curved, and that's where the driver lost control.

'Everyone should check their vehicles before they travel to avoid accidents like this.'

He added that extra care should be taken as the volume of deliveries is expected to increase amid the holiday season.
