A bizarre piglet with eight legs was born on a farm in the Philippines.

The malformed creature was the last to emerge from a litter of 13 in Zamboanga City on December 7.

Aside from its four extra limbs, the newborn animal's intestines protruded out of its tummy so worried farmer Pio Torres sought help from the local veterinarian's office.

Footage shows the baby pig resting on a cloth in a basin that served as its bed a few hours after it was delivered from the mother sow.

Pio said: ‘All of the piglets were healthy, but the last one that came out of our pet looked strange.'

Despite the unusual appearance, Pio said it could move around, so it was returned to its mother so it could suck milk.

However, Pio was devastated when he discovered the lifeless piglet by the enclosure a day later.

He said: ‘I don't know what happened. He could move around well when we left him. Maybe there was something wrong. My neighbours believed he was a special lucky piglet to us. We buried him in our yard.'

The city veterinarian officer Dr Arnedo Agbayani said the piglet had genetic problems.

He said: ‘It can happen to animals with abnormal genetics.'

The piglet was buried in the farmer's backyard the afternoon it was found dead. It was believed to have suffered from polydactyly, which causes extra feet or limbs.
