Aerial footage shows a quiet National Highways regional operations centre in Yorkshire as traffic officers strike.

The Regional Operations Centre for Yorkshire and the North East at Calder Park, Wakefield, was quiet on Friday morning December 16) while cars travel on a busy M1 motorway nearby.

Public and Commercial Services Union workers are staging a rolling walkout at National Highways England as part of industrial action taken over pay.

The traffic officers and control centre staff on strike are responsible for programming electronic signs that provide information about speed limits and lane closures, according to reports.

The workers are on strike for 12 days between December 16 and January 7.
