Christian in Gaza gathered to celebrate the lighting up of the Christmas tree at the Holy Family Church in Gaza City on Saturday 17 December.

Attendees carried balloons and posed for phots alongside the festive decorations, including one baby dressed in a Santa outfit that had their picture taken while being held up by priests next to the illuminated tree.

A group of nuns was also at the event, which was also attended by some who are not themselves Christians.

Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed primarily on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration around the world.

Christians are a sizeable minority of the population of the West Bank though a much smaller part of the population of Gaza.

Jesus is also considered a prophet in Islam.
