While I was scuba diving in one of the ponds in Sooke Potholes Provincial Park, Canada. A half decayed Chum salmon comes to investigate my camera. These salmon are at the end of their life cycle and literally start decaying alive after spawning.

Every year in Canada, millions of salmon return to their native rivers to spawn. Certain species such as Chum salmon use so much of their energy getting to the spawning site up river, that they are unable to make it back to the sea. Chum salmon in particular, look particularly eerie during this life phase as they appear to be decaying alive, giving them a zombie like appearance. Every year I head to Sooke potholes to experience this marvelous natural phenomenon. While I was scuba diving in one of the river ponds, I was lucky enough to encounter a large school of these salmon. One of the salmon, as shown in the video, comes in for a closer look to my camera.
