A hungry wild elephant wanders into a resident's home -- treating it like an all-you-can-eat buffet.

The male jumbo was first spotted roaming around the village in Chonburi province, Thailand, on December 14.

A day later, house owner Bandit saw the bull again in his backyard munching on his crops and stayed until the morning to eat more of his supplies.

Footage shows the elephant dipping his trunk on a basin with a bunch of green bananas.

Bandit said: ‘I know it was the same elephant that has been returning here. It used to come in the morning and I didn't ask it to leave.'

However, the farmer added that the smart elephant realised he would not hurt the animal so it even came at sunset.

He said: ‘Now it had the audacity to reveal itself and steal my food in the afternoon.

'After eating bananas, it came back and slept on my property. I woke up at 6am, went to the market, and saw it left back in the jungle. But on my way back, I saw the elephant here again.

‘It might be thinking my house is an open all-you-can-eat buffet.'

Local animal rescue volunteer Volunteer Nicha said the behaviour has been observed in many wild jumbos in recent years.

He said: ‘Wild elephants search for food outside the jungle because there are plenty of food sources.

‘These food sources are a also lot tastier such as sugarcane, longan, durian, and rice.

‘The elephants will come back again to eat the food. The wild elephant population also grows 8.2 per cent every year.'
