Hundreds of locals sang and danced as a Christmas tree was lit up at a train station in Kyiv on December 19.

In a city experiencing power cuts and shortages, the tree's lights and decorations are powered by an exercise bike.

Footage shows residents dancing as a live band played at the station.

Tuesday (December 20) marks 300 days of the war in Ukraine.

In Kyiv, most people spend 4-6 hours without electricity and heat, and sometimes water due to the ongoing Russian missile and drone strikes targeting critical infrastructure. The railway station came up with an idea of connecting the Xmas tree lights to an exercise bike and a car accumulator so passengers can get fit and light up the tree. Meanwhile, a folk band is playing Ukrainian songs, and people dance or sing along.
