NHS nurses and supporters hold a rally and march on Downing Street during the second day of strike action called by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) over pay and patient safety concerns (December 20).

Hundreds gathered outside University College Hospital (UCH) in Euston where they heard from nurses - one stating they were asking for a fair wage and no more.

Mick Whelan, General Secretary of the ASLEF Union and Emma Dent Coade, former Labour MP, who has been blocked for running in Kensington by her own party, also showed their support.

The marchers joined by Labour MP John McDonnell assembled in Whitehall where they urged the government to meet the nursing union for pay negotiations, where a rise of 19% is the figure outlined by the RCN.
