This is the bizarre moment a 'ghost' motorcycle rolled across the road without a rider in Thailand.

The two-wheeler seemingly appeared from out of nowhere and rolled across lanes on the road in Samut Prakan province on December 16 evening.

Motorist Tidarak Maneewong was terrified when she saw the vehicle moving despite nobody sitting on it. Upon seeing the motorcycle, she stopped her car to avoid crashing into it.

She said: ‘I was scared because my father had just borrowed my car to go to a funeral. I later found out that the rider actually fell from his bike on the other side of the road, so his motorcycle ran loose.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
