A mum and her kids were forced to SLEDGE to school after icy conditions made using the car impossible.
When Charlotte Guernsey, 47, and children Cordelia, six and Travis, seven, woke up they discovered the down hill half mile road to school was a "sheet of ice"."
Warned by their caretaker not to bring the car down, real estate broker Charlotte came up with an adventurous solution.
They pulled on their snow gear and all climbed in on one sledge and slipped down the steep slope together, screaming and laughing the whole way.
It took five minutes to get down the half-mile route and the kids were only 11 minutes late for school, in Hudson Valley, New York, USA, on 16 December.
Charlotte, who lives with husband Dennis Vetrano, 51, a divorce lawyer, said: "My husband was going to drive the kids but our caretaker called from the bottom of the hill to say she couldn't get up."
"The school didn't have any delays due to weather conditions and it was actually raining in town at the bottom of the road."
"The entire road was a sheet of ice - like glass."
"Now I was in a"
panic and thought these guys have to get to school, I got them in their snow gear and told them to grab their book bags.
"There were two times I kind of lost control but they got a great kick out of it."
"We weren't planning on having an adventure that day."
They were screaming and squealing 'I'm going to die'.
"I was determined to get them out of the house and for them to get to school."
"Moments like these you can cherish; being able to have an adventure and showing the kids that if something is going awry, there's always a way to get there in the end."
