An intense snowstorm has left at least 37 people dead and residents in western New York trapped under several feet of snow on December 26.

The footage from Monday shows vehicles covered with a thick layer of snow in the midst of the storm.

Rescue crews and hundreds of snow plough drivers were in operation. Even emergency and recovery vehicles sent out to help ended up getting stuck in the snow.

The severe winter conditions have caused power outages for thousands during the Christmas weekend and led to cancelled or delayed flights across the country.

It also caused power outages for thousands during the Christmas weekend.
