Officials capture opium smuggling gang in southern India

Officials of the Special Enforcement Bureau caught an opium smuggling gang in southern India's Andhra Pradesh.

The incident happened in Prakasam district on December 27.

Visuals showed the officials take out the seat of an auto-rickshaw to reveal the packs of opium that have been kept underneath it. According to a report, the officials were inspecting vehicles near Guntur road A-1 Function Hall when they stopped the auto that was carrying 40kg (88.18 lbs) of opium in 25 packets underneath the seat of the auto, which had three people. They have been identified as Sheikh Baji, Passam Sambasiva Rao, Keenara Veerendranath.

The vehicle was seized and a case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
