Villagers wove this incredible giant bamboo baskets large enough to carry a person for storing rice.

More than 20 locals in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand, crafted the huge container out of bamboo strips braided together on December 28.

Footage shows workers cutting up the bamboo into pliable bands, while others took up the arduous task of intertwining the pieces together.

The mats of woven bamboo were then placed around a framework of steel that served as the basket's skeleton.

For the finishing touches, a villager decorated the basket's rim with coils of red ribbon as another man torched stray bits of bamboo to polish the final product. It took more than 100 bamboo trees to complete the basket.

The giant receptacle has a diameter of around 8ft and a height of around 10 feet, and will be exhibited at the local rice festival in February next year.

Sittichai Luakthaisong, president of the Thap Sawai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, said: 'Villagers helped weave this rice basket in order to preserve our culture and tradition.

'We plan to show it off at the next rice festival.'
