A ginormous 26ft-long python was pulled from a family's ceiling and injured one firefighter while it was being evacuated in Indonesia.

The monstrous beast was discovered by the terrified homeowners when part of its body was exposed through a broken ceiling panel at the house in Makassar city, South Sulawesi province on December 25.

They called the Makassar fire department to haul the gigantic snake away.

The rescue team poked a hole through the ceiling through which they pulled the reptile to the ground.

However, they still had trouble dragging it away due to the narrow alley full of potted plants where it was located.

While being manhandled, the python retaliated and sank its teeth into one rescuer's calf before it was finally subdued. At least seven personnel were needed to heave the massive animal into a sack.

Officer Hidayatullah of the Makassar city rescue team said: 'The terrain was rather narrow, and the snake was also quite large so one of our members was bitten on the calf. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.'

The python measured a whopping 26 feet long. It was first taken to the Makassar City Rescue Team headquarters, but was later turned over to the Makassar Natural Resources Conservation Center.
