Deadly fire breaks out inside highway tunnel in South Korea

A deadly fire caused by a collision led to five dead and 37 injured on the Second Gyeongin Expressway in Gwacheon near Seoul in South Korea on December 29.

The footage shows the huge flames raging in the tunnel and thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

At least 42 casualties and 44 vehicles were involved in this accident. The number of casualties might increase.

The fire happening at around 1.49 pm was basically put out after 1.5 hours’ rescue, and eventually extinguished at around 4.12 pm.

It is reported that a bus and a truck collided resulting in the fire.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the fire department deployed more than 90 fire-fighting vehicles and more than 200 firefighters to the scene.

The police and fire department will work together to investigate the accurate damage and the cause of the accident.
