A Mumbai-Jodhpur train derailed in Rajasthan early on Monday morning (January 2), injuring at least 20 passengers.

Eleven carriages came off the track in the incident, which occurred at 3:27 am. Dozens of Boy Scouts and Girl Guides were reportedly on board, en route to a national jamboree. They are believed to be uninjured.

The train was en route to Jodhpur.

Eleven coaches of Suryanagari Express (Train Number 12480) derailed near Pali in Rajasthan in the early hours of Monday. The incident took place at 3.27 am between Rajkiawas-Bomadra section of Jodhpur division. Originating from Bandra Terminus, the train was en route to Jodhpur.

133 Scouts and Guides from Maharashtra State and 35 from Telangana State were on board the train. All the 168 students were on their way to participate in the National Jamboree. All Scouts and Guides are safe.

Above 20 passengers injured in the incident. An accident relief train has been dispatched from Jodhpur by Railways.

Speaking about the incident, passengers told Media, “Within 5 minutes of departing from Marwar junction, a vibration sound was heard inside the train & after 2-3 minutes, the train stopped. We got down & saw that at least 11 sleeper class coaches were off the tracks. Within 15-20 minutes, ambulances arrived."

"Higher officials are expected to reach the spot soon. General Manager - North Western Railway and other high officials are monitoring the situation in the control room at the headquarters in Jaipur," said the Chief Public Relations Officer.
