This is the hilarious moment three friends suffered a New Year's Eve fail - when fireworks exploded in their ears as they welcomed in 2023.

The pals were on the beach recording a video selfie at the countdown to midnight when the pyrotechnics misfired on the Chalatat Beach in Songkhla Province, southern Thailand.

Explosions and sparks went off behind them - creating a timeless moment and fortunately not injuring any of them.

Nong Kul, the girl on the left, said: 'We recorded this as the clock reached midnight. We were quite far from the fireworks, so we thought we were safe. We checked and it didn't seem there was anybody coming to light any fireworks, so we kept recording, then suddenly there were explosions.

'We all felt the sparks from above fall onto our heads. But fortunately, the falling flakes did not ignite our hair. But they caused a burning sensation on the scalp, like an incense stick had fallen on it, and there were sparks of fire from below all around our feet.

'We covered our ears and ran with our heads down and saw that there were sparks running parallel to the sand. It's good that we ran together and jumped together. But it directly affected our ears and we had tinnitus and earache for about 10 or 15 minutes afterward.

'At first, we were very angry. My friend in the middle who took the video went back to see where the fireworks came from and who lit them. But when they came, they laughed so hard and we saw the funny side.

'It's cool so I put it online because it's funny. We weren't hurt much. Fortunately, the falling firecrackers were no longer burning. So we just had stinging and ear pain for a while.'
