A clever student in formal attire wore trash bags around his legs to safely cross a flooded street.

Joevence Cuaresma, 21, was attending the awarding ceremony of a school event, but the roads were inundated after a thunderstorm caused heavy rain in South Cotabato province, the Philippines, on November 18.

The nursing student did not want his suit to be ruined by the deluge, so he asked for two large pieces of plastic and wrapped them around his legs as DIY protective gear.

Footage shows Joevence wearing the disposable ‘boots' as he reaches the other side of the street without being wet.

He said: ‘I needed to arrive at school on time for the awarding of our sports event. I stayed at my friend's house to rest, but I didn't know that the water outside was already too high

‘When I was about to leave, I had to think of a quick idea because I was running late, so I asked for the plastic bags.'

Joevence reached school without dirtying his attire, but he said he was still late because he had to walk slowly.
