A wild macaque joined Buddhist monks at a temple to pray and feast on offerings in Thailand.

Footage shows the animal walking around the hall while eyeing the buffet on the red mat in Saraburi province on December 30.

After gatecrashing the religious event, the chubby monkey swaggered over the food, where he was first offered a banana.

The creature appeared picky at first and ignored the fruit but went on to eat a small bag of savory chips.

One of the monks said: "This monkey usually comes to our event. He might have sensed food so he went here again. It was a holy day for the Buddhists so he wanted to come and celebrate too".
